According to new court documents, Angelina Jolie’s legal team alleges that Pitt’s ‘history of physical abuse’ of her ‘started well before’ their 2016 altercation.
In a recent legal filing Angelina Jolie has accused her former spouse Brad Pitt of a “history of physical abuse” towards her dating back before their alleged altercation on a plane in 2016. The 48-year-old actress legal team submitted documents on April 4, targeting the 60-year-old actor.
According to statements from Jolie’s lawyers as reported by various sources the physical abuse by Brad Pitt began prior to the family’s September 2016 plane journey from France to Los Angeles. However, it’s noted that this flight marked the first instance where Pitt’s alleged abuse extended to their children. Following this incident Angelina Jolie reportedly chose to leave brad Pitt immediately.
Jolie’s legal representatives also asserted that brad Pitt attempted to impose a contractual agreement on her to ensure her silence particularly after discovering in 2021 that she had submitted a sealed filing regarding their legal matters. This filing reportedly contained emails family testimony summaries and other evidence.
In a statement provided Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy claimed Mr. Pitt declined to purchase Ms. Jolie’s stake in their situation when she refused to comply with his non-disclosure agreement (NDA). By opting not to acquire her stake but subsequently taking legal action against her Mr. Pitt brought into question why the NDA was so crucial to him and what he intended it to conceal: his alleged mistreatment of Ms. Jolie and their family.
Brad Pitt has not publicly responded to Jolie’s new court filing.
In October 2022, Angelina Jolie made allegations against her former husband, claiming he physically assaulted both her and their children during a flight to California in 2016. As per court documents obtained by Hollywood Life from the Los Angeles Superior Court Angelina Jolie recounted an incident where she and Pitt engaged in a heated argument inside the airplane’s bathroom. Allegedly Brad Pitt forcefully grabbed her by the head and shook her then pushed her against the bathroom wall subsequently striking the plane’s ceiling multiple times.
During the altercation one of their six children reportedly intervened to defend Jolie, prompting Pitt to allegedly choke one child and strike another. Additionally, Jolie accused Pitt of pouring beer and red wine on their children during the incident.
Following the incident, the F.B.I. initiated an investigation, although Pitt was not charged with any criminal offenses. He strongly refuted Jolie’s accusations. A spokesperson for Pitt, speaking to CNN in 2022 emphasized that Jolie’s narrative has evolved over time incorporating new and unverified claims. While Pitt acknowledged his responsibility for his actions he maintained his innocence regarding the allegations made against him.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were married from 2014 until 2019.
