Gerry Turner explained that he and Theresa ‘mutually’ decided to end their marriage three months after exchanging vows on live TV.
After just three months of marriage, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have decided to part ways. The inaugural couple to tie the knot on The Golden Bachelor made the announcement of their separation during a joint appearance on Good Morning America on Friday, April 12th.
“Theresa and I have engaged in numerous heartfelt discussions and carefully examined our circumstances, including our living arrangements, and we have jointly concluded that it’s time for us to end our marriage,” explained Gerry, aged 72. Theresa, aged 70, added, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from those who followed our journey on The Golden Bachelor. It’s heartening to know that our story has inspired hope in so many. We hope that remains unchanged for everyone.”
Theresa followed up with a message of encouragement, urging others not to lose hope. “Don’t give up. Stay in it. Stay hopeful. ‘Cause we are,” she emphasized.
Their decision to part ways stemmed from the challenge of distance. Theresa highlighted their plans to settle down either in New Jersey, her hometown, or South Carolina. However, despite exploring various options and viewing numerous homes, they never reached a consensus. Gerry elaborated on the underlying theme of their discussions, expressing admiration for their mutual dedication to their respective families. He reflected on the conversations they shared and concluded that, for the sake of their individual happiness, living apart was the best course of action.
Their story serves as a reminder of the complexities inherent in relationships and the importance of prioritizing personal fulfillment. Despite their decision to go their separate ways, Theresa and Gerry maintain a sense of hope and resilience, encouraging others to persevere in their own journeys. It’s a testament to their strength and willingness to confront challenges head-on, even when the outcome may not align with their initial aspirations.
Gerry’s familial role extends to being the father of Angie and Jenny, both daughters from his previous marriage to Toni, who has since passed away. Additionally, he embraces the role of a proud grandfather to Charlee and Payton. Theresa, on the other hand, assumes the position of a mother to her grown children, Jen and Tommy, and she cherishes her role as a grandmother to six grandchildren.
Even though they have chosen to part ways, Gerry and Theresa emphasized their enduring friendship and the continued presence of love between them during their GMA interview, where they remained physically connected by holding hands. Gerry expressed his unwavering affection for Theresa, affirming that his love for her remains steadfast and he continues to support her wholeheartedly. Theresa echoed these sentiments, acknowledging her ongoing love for Gerry.
Despite their decision to separate, they shared a poignant moment reflecting on the memories they had created together. While Theresa mentioned returning the wedding ring to Gerry, he emphasized the irreplaceable value of the memories they had shared, indicating that those cherished moments would forever remain with them, regardless of the physical symbols of their union. Their commitment to maintaining their bond as friends and acknowledging the enduring love they have for each other serves as a testament to the depth of their connection and the mutual respect they continue to hold, even in the face of their decision to part ways romantically.
